Corporación Otraparte, "Otraparte Foundation", is a Colombian cultural organization founded on April 10, 2002 by Simon González Restrepo, the youngest son of Fernando González Ochoa, to promote and keep the legacy of the writer and philosopher of Otraparte, as he was known. The house of the philosopher was converted in a Museum and a cultural center with international projection. The area is also preserved as a garden for the benefit of the community and the protection of the natural environment in what was called the Otraparte Cultural Park. The idea is to create a space where Colombia and the world can meet the message and philosophy of Fernando González Ochoa that still to be known and that is so much inspiring for the development of new generations in literature and thinking. Context Fernando Jr. González Restrepo died on April 10, 2001. He was the person who dedicated himself with most heart to the preservation of the work and thought of his father "from the solitude and an intense interior life", as he was described by his friend, the journalist and scholar Ernesto Ochoa Moreno. The inspiration to create an institution to preserve the legacy of the philosophizer came when González and Ochoa did a visit to Chile and knew a similar organization doing the same with the memory and work of the poet Gabriela Mistral, who was a friend of Fernando González Ochoa. However, Fernando got sick and the project was suspended. After his dead, the responsibility fall in the youngest son of the philosopher, who was also governor of the State of San Andrés and Providencia Archipelago. Simon decided to create the institution with the support of his nephews Lucas González Flórez and Pedro Angel González, who at their time invited Gustavo Restrepo to participate in the project thanks to his work in the diffusion of the thought of the philosopher through his Website "La Otraparte de Fernando González" (www.otraparte.org). Beginning On April 10, 2002, the same day of the first anniversary of the death of Fernando Jr., was celebrated the first Assembly of the constitution of the cultural corporation of Fernando González Ochoa - Otraparte, made by 57 founder members. On September 4, 2002 the cultural corporation opened its doors after a contract was signed with the Municipality of Envigado that gave the house to the organization as its headquarters for a time of five years. References The logo was designed by Gustavo Restrepo and belong to the Otraparte Cultural Corporation. |
