Welcome to Santa Marta!
The oldest city founded by the Spaniards in South America, Santa Marta is a place of wonders: the place were Libertador Simón Bolívar, the South American hero of the Independence, passed away in 1830. It is also located at the foot of the tollest mountain of the world so near to the sea: the summit is more than 5,000 meters and only 40 kilometers away from the coast. In consecuence, you can go from the tropical beaches to the glacial summits of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. In the mountain you can visit the ancient American culture of the Taironas and their Lost City (Ciudad Perdida). Santa Marta is famous for its huge beaches like El Rodadero and its aspect of an old Spaniard town at the coast of the Caribbean Sea.
