Welcome to San Andrés Islands!

The San Andrés Archipielago is formed by three main islands: San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. There are several islets and cays. It is one of the biggest coral systems of the west Caribbean bassin. San Andrés was the refuge of the British pirates that sieged the Spaniard colonies in the Americas. The most famous of them was Morgan. It was integrated to the Nueva Granada Viceroyalty. After the Independence, San Andrés Archipielago signed the Constitution of Cúcuta of 1821 becoming a Colombian territory. It makes that the South American nation shares sea borders with Central America and the Antilles.

A tropical paradise, San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina are the home of the Raizal People, an indigenous community with their own language. They speak also English as their common language. The Raizal people belong to the Antille cultural traditions influenced by the African forced migrations brought by the British to places like Jamaica.
