Leticia is a city of Colombia located 1,100 kilometers at the south of Bogotá (683 miles). It is also the most southern spot of the Colombian territory, just at the northern banks of the Amazon River. There are not land connections of Leticia with the rest of Colombia due to the jungles. Access from Bogotá to Leticia is exclusively by plane. It is also located in the Three Borders Region, a place where Colombia, Peru and Brazil join.
Location
The city is located in the Colombian Amazon (Amazon Trapezium), the most southern territory of Colombia in South America. According with DANE's statistics of 2005, the population is about 40 thousand persons. The city is just at the junction of the borders with Brazil and Peru (The Three Frontiers). At the east and south of Leticia there is a Brazilian village known as Tabatinga, at the south the Peruvian territory and at the west the Colombian municipality of Puerto Nariño.
