It means that in 2011, Latin America and the Caribbean will close with 174 million of persons living in poverty and 73 million of them in extreme poverty or indigence. Ms. Bárcenas explained that the poverty reduction is explained in the increase of labor incomes. Perú, Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia registered the most meaningful reduction of poverty in the last decade, while Honduras and Mexico presented a poverty increase with 1.7 and 1.5 percent respectively.
